Men's Community Prayer Breakfasts

Fridays at 6 a.m.

by Barbara Fatkin

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14

Anew men’s prayer ministry has started in Warner Robins that will especially appeal to early risers. The Men’s Community Prayer Breakfast meets every Friday morning at 6 a.m. at the Wellston Center, located at 155 Maple Street.

The kick off meeting was held on Friday, January 15, and featured Warner Robins Mayor Chuck Shaheen as the guest speaker.

The 45-minute prayer breakfast is hosted by Tim Price, Director of Ironmen Ministries. In addition to Price’s leadership, the prayer breakfast provides table leaders, or prayer warriors as Price calls them, who have committed to praying individually for every man seated at their tables.

“This event idea was birthed almost a decade ago. The idea would bubble up and then subside, but several months ago, a couple of guys got this idea rekindled. I think it is God’s timing. I believe that God is preparing our community to make great changes. We gather together to pray because God’s word is true; the promises in the Bible are true. Our Scripture verse for this event is 2 Chronicles 7:14,” Price said.

The 85 men who attended the first breakfast were welcomed inside the Wellston Center, provided a name badge, and encouraged to help themselves to coffee, juice, fruit, and doughnuts. Price started the meeting promptly at 6 a.m. After a brief introduction about the purpose of the ministry, Price explained about table time, where the men would have a chance to introduce themselves and share prayer requests.

“There are needs in every life and needs in the lives of those around us. We will come together and pray for you individually and corporately. We will close every week with a prayer for our community, our city, our mayor, our state, our governor, our country, our president, our congressmen, and our men and women in the military,” Price said.

Since the Men’s Prayer Breakfast attenders have committed to praying for those in leadership positions, it is fitting that Warner Robin’s new Mayor Chuck Shaheen was the prayer breakfast’s first speaker.

Mayor Shaheen greeted the participants and confidently quoted Romans 1:16, “I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes...”

“On October 25, 1981, I got on my knees and repented of my sins and asked Jesus to come into my life. Jesus has changed me.

“When I moved to Mississippi about 20 years ago, I was away from my family and learned to totally rely on God. While I was there, Rev. 12:11 became my life verse. (‘They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony…’ Rev. 12:11a).

“Every year in December, I ask God to give me a Scripture verse for the next year. In 1990, my goal was to be debt free. After a year of eating baloney sandwiches and making the sacrifices necessary to achieve my financial goal, I quit my job and moved back home. The next year my dad got cancer and died. Had I not had my financial house in order, I wouldn’t have had that opportunity to spend the last year of my dad’s life with him.

“My prayer life until about five years ago sounded a lot like this, ‘Lord, bless my family. Lord, bless my church. Lord, bless my pastor.’

“God revealed to me that I don’t have to ask Him to bless me but that I need to ask how my life can glorify Him? So my prayer now is, ‘How can my life glorify you? What can I do in my life to bring you honor and glory? What does it take to be the man that You want me to be?’

“Scripture is also part of my everyday prayers. We need to put on the armor of God every day. These are the verses I read each day:

“But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:14

“I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.” Psalms 119:14

“In the same way let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

“Since I have been elected mayor, people say to me, ‘We sure hope you don’t change.’ I won’t change because my power doesn’t come from being mayor. My power comes from the Holy Spirit. You can’t get any more power than when you tap into the Holy Spirit.

“For 2010, my Bible verse is Matthew 23:11,12: “The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

At the close of the prayer breakfast, Tim Price introduced his dad, Wendell Price, as the man who had had the most influence on his spiritual life. Wendell Price ended the meeting in heartfelt prayer.
