Struggling to pay for health care?

Fort Valley Ministry Opens Free Medical Clinic

by Barbara Fatkin

While health care costs have doubled in America in the last ten years, relief is in sight for employed uninsured citizens in Peach County and surrounding areas. The Feed Center Free Medical Clinic in Fort Valley opened its doors in June. The non-profit facility provides free medical care to people who are working but don't have medical insurance.

According to Evangelist Al Sanders, founder of the Feed Center Ministry, six doctors, a pharmacist, nurses, technicians and administrative personnel have volunteered their time to provide primary health care services two evenings a week. The free clinic is open on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m.

The clinic is currently seeing about 13 patients per night. "This is such an opportunity for outreach. We have people coming from as far away as Dodge and Troup counties," said Sanders. "The clinic is faith based and Jesus-centered. We're taking care of the people's needs through Christ."

The clinic sees patients on an appointment-only basis. Those seeking medical attention need to register on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Feed Center Outreach, located on 313 Carver Drive in Fort Valley.

"God gave us this vision and we're running with it. We just got a dentist on board and we're looking for an optometrist to come on board as well," Sanders said.

The clinic depends on donated funds to provide medical care to those who have no other resources for health care. If you would like to make a donation, visit the website at www.feedcenterministry.org, or call 478-825-0038.
