Byron United Methodist Church held its 2nd Annual Soul
Survivor Youth Revival on April 27-29, 2009, and it was
another huge success. Youth, ages 5 to 89, from all over
Middle Georgia experienced three nights of praise,
worship, guest speakers, drama skits, mime, and special
music from area Christian praise bands including the
Byron UMC youth. Best of all, souls were won to Christ.
And, as the "Holy Hokey Pokey" goes…
"That's what it's all about!"
Staying with the "Holy Hokey Pokey" theme,
everyone put their right hands in the first night and
started praising the Lord with music from Doubting
Thomas, a praise and worship band consisting of four
high-school aged youth from Kathleen, Georgia. They
fired-up all the soul survivors with great music and set
the tone for the night's speaker, "Daddy" Rick
Lanford, President, The Foundation of The Methodist Home
of the South Georgia Conference, Inc. You couldn't have
asked for a better message, but, it did get better when
a soul was saved that night.
The left hands were added the second night with Byron
United Methodist Church's praise band, Public
Humiliation. They rocked God's house with some of the
best praise and worship music anyone could ever hear. As
two of Byron's own youth, Hannah Lettice and Konner
Allred described it, "Rockin'Awesome, even though
there are no words to explain it!" The speaker for
the night was the Rev. Christopher Coleman from
Empowered Ministries. His testimony touched so many
lives that night, young and old! His testimony was so
intense at times, that with over 200 youth in the room,
you could hear a pin drop. But, at other times, with his
sense of humor and the fun he had growing up with such a
great mother and mentor, you couldn't get everyone to
quit laughing. Some of you might have heard Christopher
speak at AtlantaFest last year at Stone Mountain. He was
so awesome, that he has been invited back to speak again
at our church on August 30th at our 11 a.m. service. You
can learn more about him on his website, http: //christopher
coleman. net. The night got even better; more souls were
saved!
We put our whole bodies in for the third night
starting with JJ Weeks band. These guys are awesome. JJ
Weeks had this to say about being a part of the Soul
Survivor for the 2nd year: "Soul Survivor is one of
those events that we look forward to being a part of
every year. We have seen this youth revival change
people's lives every time we have attended. The
leadership of this event really has a heart to reach
their community, and it shows when they pull out all the
stops for this event every year. Make your plans now to
be a part of the 2010 Soul Survivor!" And, of
course, JJ Weeks Band is scheduled to play on Tuesday,
April 27, 2010. Jason McCleod, from the movies Facing
the Giants and Fireproof, was the speaker for the night.
What a testimony! This man of God puts God first in his
life. He's a mentor with a message for the youth. The
best news— more souls were saved!
So, we "shook it all around", and mixed it
all up with three wonderful nights of revival. God was
here, and still is. Ms. Jackie Morris, one of Byron
United Methodist Church's most "experienced,
older" youth summed it up by saying, "Soul
Survivor was a demonstration of God's Word that through
our weaknesses, He is made strong. The humility,
transparency and acknowledgement of a life totally
dependent upon God (spiritually and physically) is a
testimony that touches every heart, young and old."
Mark your calendars for 2010, 3rd Annual Soul
Survivor - April 26-28th.
