Sisters of Deliverance

by Estoria West

“But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.” Matthew 13:8

During the grieving process of losing my mother, I realized the true value of friends. I came to understand that we will all need a friend at some time in our life. Growing up, there were my parents, my brothers, and me. I always wanted a sister in the house, but instead I got stuck with brothers. There was always a longing for the sister bond for me, but once my mother entered Glory, the longing became more intense.

Out of the hurt, God laid a ministry on my heart, Sisters of Deliverance, (S. O. D. ). Sod by definition is the part of the grass that holds the root. It is where the plant receives its nourishment. Sod is the part of the plant that is the lifeline. As Christians, we are instructed to bear fruit. In order to win others to Christ, we have to be able to show the love of Christ. S. O. D. is sod. It's the basic part of bearing fruit. It's the good ground spoken of in Matthew 13:8.

S. O. D. is an open forum fellowship that welcomes women to come and talk. There is no guideline or prerequisite, all you have to do is come. Talking for me has been difficult. I'm not a shy or timid person, but I don't share my feelings and emotions very well. So, this fellowship gave me an opportunity to break out of my shell and share the hurt and pain that I was feeling. It opened up the door for other women to do the same. Please, understand that it's not a sad party. We come, enjoy good food, and just talk. We talk about real life issues. We bond.

We gather and strengthen one another, and then we take that strength and encouragement to those in our communities, on our jobs, in our neighborhoods, and back to our homes.

S. O. D. is open to every women. We meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month at Deliverance Tabernacle Holiness Church from 7-9pm. The church is located at 435 Elberta Road, on the corner of Elberta and Dunbar Roads. We laugh, sometimes we cry, but we always, always leave on a spiritual high. We leave blessed and encouraged. So, I welcome all the women in Middle Georgia to what is becoming one of the best Women's Fellowships around!
