Home Sweet Home

by Tom Prior

Sixteen area churches banded together in a recent Apostles Build to help provide Houston County Habitat for Humanity's 39th house.

Elia (pictured on the front cover of this issue) and her husband, Angel Tapia, are the proud homeowners of a brand new, four-bedroom home on Orchard Way in Warner Robins. They contributed 500 hours of "sweat equity" to help build their new home. Angel and Elia, along with their children Nora, Angel, and Christopher, can now move from their rented trailer into a house they own. They purchased the home and financed it with a no-interest mortgage from Houston County Habitat for Humanity."

Houston County Habitat for Humanity held the dedication ceremony on September 7.

An Apostles Build is a reflection of the Apostles of Jesus. Usually, twelve churches come together to provide the prayer, labor, and funds needed to partner in building a Habitat home.

In Houston County, several smaller churches joined resources to create one apostle. Thus 16 area churches supported this Apostles Build. The participating churches include All Saints Episcopal Church, Andrew United Methodist Church, Bonaire United Methodist Church, Christ Chapel Warner Robins, Christ United Methodist Church, Christian Fellowship Church, Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church, Hebron Fellowship Baptist Church, Perry United Methodist Church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Unity Baptist Church, and Westminster Presbyterian Church.

An Apostles Build is perfect for smaller churches that may not have the financial or volunteer capacity to adopt a home on their own.

In an Apostles Build more churches are able to participate in the excitement and joy of building a home and seeing a family realize their dreams.
