Men’s Breakfast Ministry Is Challenging
Men’s Hearts

by Barbara Fatkin

Terry Theus is praying for all men in the Middle Georgia area to wake up to their calling as the spiritual leaders in their homes. He is hoping that nationally known Evangelist Randy Ruiz will inspire area men with that message at the June 7 Men's Breakfast at Christ Chapel in Warner Robins.

"An awakening must take place in the body of Christ if we are ever going to see true revival in America. This awakening constitutes a deep commitment to holiness, purity, and men returning to being the priests of their homes. In order to fulfill this call, we must understand what it means to ‘walk in the spirit,'" says Evangelist Randy Ruiz on his website. Ruiz, from Springfield, Missouri, will be the guest minister for the Men's Ministry Breakfast Outreach on June 7.

Terry Theus, who started the Men's Ministry Breakfast last November, is inviting both men and women to come hear Ruiz speak on June 7 at 8 a.m. "He is a dynamic man of God who has spoken at a White House prayer breakfast and at church events all over the country," Theus said.

"God has called the man to be the spiritual leader in the home and in the church. Studies show that when a man gives his heart to Christ, his family follows his lead 80 percent of the time. When the spiritual leadership in the household falls on the woman's shoulders, only 20 percent of the family follows," Theus added.

Attendees won't hear Ruiz's message on an empty stomach. A breakfast of pancakes and sausage, cooked by Will Daniels from the Macon Fire Department, will be served at 8 a.m. Hearts will be prepared to receive the Word by Terry Brinson, worship leader, and his worship team from New Hope International.

Christ Chapel has hosted six men's breakfasts since their beginning in November. The breakfasts, held on the first Saturday of each month, are open to men in all churches. The Christ Chapel men usually cook the breakfast. At the first breakfast, Steve Snyder, head of Honor Bound Men's Ministry in the state of Georgia, spoke. Other speakers have included Billy Thomas, pastor of The Refuge in Perry, John Wood, pastor of Christ Chapel Macon, Jeff Poole, pastor of New Hope International, and Greg McClendon, pastor of Living Water Baptist Church in Unadilla.

"Our men's breakfast is averaging from 90 to 100 men. When Jeff Poole spoke, we had invited the Northside High School football team and coaching staff, and had a larger crowd of 250. About 60 men responded to the altar call that morning," Theus said.

On April 5, Anthony Clarke, Pastor of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, will preach the message, and worship will be led by Brian Worster, Music Minister from Southside Baptist Church. Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m.

"The purpose behind the men's breakfasts is to bring men from the community together to hear from the Lord. My vision for this ministry is for denominational, racial, and spiritual walls to be brought down. My prayer is for the men from all the churches in our community to come together and to be challenged by God's Word brought to us by area pastors and to go back in our own churches and be the inspired leaders that God has called us to be," Theus said.

Mission opportunities for the men have already opened up. On April 27, volunteers from the men's ministry will travel to Athens, Georgia, to lead a worship service and feed the homeless. "It's an opportunity for our men to put legs to our faith. God is opening up different avenues for us to minister through, and one of these is a homeless ministry that is already in place. A pastor in Athens houses and feeds the homeless and doesn't have much financial help. Andy King, pastor of Christ Chapel Warner Robins will deliver a message of hope, and we are bringing the food for a dinner afterwards," Theus said. Theus felt the Lord calling him to start a men's ministry in Warner Robins last year. When he approached the pastor of Christ Chapel Warner Robins campus, Andy King, with this idea, King said that a ministry for men was just what was needed.

Theus wanted to share with others the same type of Christian mentoring he had received from two important men in his life, Calvin Hedden and his son, Terry.

"The Bible says for us to give honor where honor is due, and this men's ministry is birthed because of the outpouring of Jesus' love from Calvin Hedden and Terry. Brother Calvin was a father figure and a mentor to me when I first became a Christian. Terry Hedden invited me to go to church with him at the First Assembly of God. I was awed by the close relationship that he and his father shared. I knew in my heart that I was witnessing the way that God had intended a father-son relationship to be. My parents divorced when I was in the first grade, and I had longed for a father figure in my life. After I became a Christian, Christ came into my life and delivered me from my alcohol and drug addiction, but I needed Christian mentoring, and Calvin and Terry adopted me into their family as one of their own," Theus said.

"When godly men get together, no matter where you are in your relationship with God, it always challenges you to go deeper and to become more of what God has called you to be. God is doing something miraculous here. Lives are being challenged, and men are really responding," Theus said.
