The 2007-08 school year marks the third school year
that Trinity United Methodist Church of Warner Robins
has partnered with Miller Elementary School. As is
often the case, this community outreach project has
meant as much to the volunteers from Trinity as it has
to the students and staff at Miller.
Even though it still feels like mid-summer, the
school year has started, and if you would like to
become part of the Miller team of volunteers, the time
is now.
What type of help is needed? Tutors and mentors are
the heart of the program, with Trinity volunteers
visiting Miller classrooms weekly to tutor, mentor,
read to classes, help teachers in their classes,
assist in the media center, and other assignments.
Volunteers have also helped proctor during
standardized tests in the fall and spring and have
assisted with the school book fair.
Ways to help out that do not require an on-going
commitment of time include helping with the Christmas
gift drive, working with the collection of books and
the book distribution at the end of the school year,
putting together goodie bags for teachers at various
times during the year, or helping with the teacher
appreciation luncheon in the spring.
Anyone interested in working directly with children
will have to have a background check. The background
check forms are available in Trinity's church office.
Prayer provides the foundation of the Miller
Project. Great challenges face today's educators and
students, and the blessings and peace that an under
girding of prayer can bring makes a difference.
