Kids Dig It at Explorations in Antiquity

Let the little ones loose at the Explorations in
Antiquity Center in LaGrange, Georgia, and they’re
bound to run to a favorite spot–the Kid’s Dig.
Here, as barnyard chickens and a pet rooster roam the
re-created Holy Land, children are invited to get
their hands dirty–along with the knees of their
pants–as they dig through time to unearth
archaeological “discoveries.”
Four main areas mirror actual archaeological dig sites
from various time periods with each site containing a
combination of real artifacts and replicas buried in
the sand.
Archaeological technique is taught as children unveil
their finds, and reconstructions of the discovered
artifacts are practiced on nearby worktables.
Perfect for Sunday School classes, Vacation Bible
School groups and birthday parties, the Kid’s Digs
are geared toward children ages 5 to 13 and arranged
by appointment. The Kid’s Dig costs $7 per student,
which covers the dig, pottery analysis, and a
certificate of completion.
There’s lots of educational opportunities for
grownups at the Center as well. On March 12-14, the
Center for Antiquities is hosting a conference on
“Discoveries and the Easter Season.” They are also
offering “Follow the Cross” garden walks every
weekend until Easter with an emphasis on the Roman
crucifixion trees and the New Testament tomb.
