On Thursday, January 22, people will gather at City
Hall in Macon at 11:30 a.m. for a Memorial Program and
then will walk silently to Central City Park in memory
of pre-born babies and their mothers, the primary
victims of abortions.
Steve Foxworth, executive director of the Sav A
Life Ministry, emphasized that the peaceful, silent
march is not designed to be an abortion protest;
rather, it is a memorial walk of remembrance and
reflection.
"Since the Roe vs. Wade decision, over 46
million babies have been aborted in the United States.
Over 33, 000 pre-born babies are aborted each year in
the state of Georgia alone. This memorial walk
remembers all these lives that have been lost. We want
to bring attention to those unborn children who would
have been part of our families, part of our churches,
and part of our communities. We want to speak for
those who can't speak for themselves," Foxworth
said.
This year's walk will mark the 18th anniversary of
the Middle Georgia Silent Memorial Walk. The walk
began in response to the death of a 17-year-old Macon
teenager, Teresa Causey, who died hours after
undergoing an abortion procedure in 1988. The Memorial
Walk has grown in scope to include all women and
children who have lost their lives or been damaged by
abortion as well as to remember the indirect victims
of abortion.
"Abortion's effects are more far-reaching than
just for the girl who walks into an abortion clinic.
Every abortion has four victims: the pre-born child,
the mother, the father, and society as a whole,"
Foxworth said.
"Especially during the Sanctity of Human Life
Week on January 21-28, it is important for the local
Middle Georgia community to take a stand for life.
January is a time for churches to highlight that life
is sacred and precious. To help spread this message,
Sav A Life provides churches with bulletin
inserts," said Foxworth.
